    Must See TV

Friday, September 26, 2008, 04:49 PM EST [General]

This time of the year is always so great.

It's the only time of the year that all four major league sports occur simultaneously.  Baseball postseason begins, NFL is humming along, NHL drops the puck...and of course, NBA Training Camp opens.  Throw in a boxing match between Obama and McCain and you have it all.  There is a certain buzz in the air.

But another thing happens at this time of the year that I KNOW everyone celebrates: TV Fall Premiere Week.

I'm not sure I've ever entered into a televsion season as excited as I am for this one.  I want to take a moment to share three great shows that you may or may not watch.  But hopefully after this blog, you'll soon become a loyal viewer just like me.  So put your microwave dinner in and set it on high...we are about to begin.

    The Office
Funniest show on TV.  I might also add that this might be the best sitcom since Seinfeld.  Just remember this blog when you are tucked in bed 20 years from now when you are still watching re-runs of The Office at 11:00 p.m. each night of the week.  It has caught on here at work too.  For instance, the over-under on "That's what she said" one-liners in any given day is about 37.5.   And those who bet the over usually win.  By the way, do any of you have any updog?  Better watch the video below and find out.

If anyone who is reading this has never seen the show, Steve Carell plays "Michael Scott", the regional manager of the Scranton branch of paper distribution company Dunder Mifflin. It's awkwardly funny...even painfully awkward at points which makes it so unique and clever.  Check it out on Thursdays on NBC at 9:00 p.m.

    How I Met Your Mother
I just started watching this show during the middle of last season and I'm so glad I stumbled upon it.  It's probably the most under-rated sitcom on TV right now.  Think of it as a younger, edgier "Friends" that leaves you in stitches and gives you plenty of material to discuss at the water cooler the next day.  Neil Patrick Harris plays Barney Stinson, a witty womanizer who always "suits up", no matter what the occasion...and he single-handedly makes the show great.  He even gives great advice on how to stop being sad.

The rest of the cast is great too...Jason Segel (Forgetting Sarah Marshall), Alyson Hannigan (American Pie), Robin Sparkles (Let's Go to the Mall), and Josh Radnor and all contribute to this thrilling thirty minutes of laughter that you can find on CBS on Monday nights at 8:30 p.m.

    CSI New York
I got hooked on the original CSI (Vegas) back in 2004, but I could never get into CSI Miami...I don't know...there's just something about David Caruso's one liners and his sunglasses that make me not take the show too serious...check them out yourself.

However, I gave CSI NY a chance and I'm happy I did.  Gary Sinese,  Melina Kanakaredes, and the rest of the folks back at the lab make for an interesting crime forensics show based right in the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple.  Tune in and check it out on CBS on Wednesdays at 10:00 p.m.

    Wait...One More Show!
But there is one more season premiere that I'm excited for and know you've all heard of it.  It's based in Cleveland.  It just added a few big names to the cast, and they are ready to blow away their competitors during their time slot.   Best yet, you can catch them two or three times a week for three hours at a time.   And there are no repeats...for the entire season.

The name of the show is the Cleveland Cavaliers and this year's theme is "Get Pumped".   And man, am I ever!  This season is going to be different than those of the past.  And this just might be the best season yet.  I truly believe we have what it takes to go deep, really deep into the playoffs and possibly bring home something better than an Emmy...the Larry O'Brien trophy.

Media day is Monday and training camp starts Tuesday.  Get your DVRs ready to record a season to remember.

    Tales from the Bikeathon

Monday, June 23, 2008, 05:34 PM EST [General]

    Howdy everyone...Admin here checking in.

I volunteered for LeBron James' 3rd King for Kids Bikeathon this past Saturday in Akron.  The position I was volunteering for required me to be there at 6:30 a.m....so this required getting up at 5:15 a.m.  I'm not a morning person, so this was NOT easy.  However, I was not able to make it down in the previous years, so I was excited to be a part of it.  I even saw the sun rise over the Cleveland skyline as I began my trek down to Akron.

My position was a "greeter" and my responsibilities included greeting and directing the children and parents to their stations as they arrived at the parking garage to check in.  The kids were very excited...and rightfully so...a chance to ride with the King, famous celebrities, and other cool Cavaliers personalities...not to mention, they got to keep their bike too!

After the kids left the garage, things calmed down and I got the sudden urge to ride in the bikeathon.  I found Colleen Garrity, Community Relations Director extraordinaire, and within no time, shen found me a bike and helmet and I was ready to go!  After a quick pep-talk from Moondog and Animal Control Joel, I was ready to go.  LeBron welcomed everyone and before I knew it, we were off on our 8-mile journey through the streets of Akron.

I normally ride quite a ways on my own bike once a week or so.  I rode home from work the other week which ended up being about 17 miles, but this, my friends, was HARD!  Akron has lots of hills and steep ones at that!  The crowd was great and the occasional LBJ sighting put an extra push in my pedaling. At one point I witnessed a celeb (think it might have been Kenny Lofton)  doing a no-handed wheelie for a good 15 seconds...yes I did say no-handed wheelie.  As I crossed the finish line, Gloria James handed me a cup of water.  She is an awesome woman and I can see where LeBron gets his heart and professionalism.

Lock 3 Park was jamming afterwards, with tons of activities and freebies.  A great fan experience.  I highly recommend that everyone check it out next year.  Downtown Akron is a perfect place to accomodate this wonderful event.

    Until next time....ride on, everyone!

He should've played ball, the way he towers over Danny like that! But I'm glad he chose this path! GO CAVS!
