    Help Is On Da Way

Tuesday, August 19, 2008, 07:33 PM EST [General]

I took a little trip down to Columbus this week and I have been having a good time.  I haven't really had access to the internet, so very frequently I find myself wondering if Danny Ferry pulled off some other miracle move that would instantly thrust the Cavs into "elite status."  Which I find funny, because any team that is well-coached, that plays defense, rebounds and has LeBron James is always a few lucky bounces away from getting to the finals.  Teams that are not "elite" do not make it to the finals.  Let's dispell that rumor right now.

Regardless, as I was walking down High Street I saw an old familar face:  "The Rapping Bum."  He is a staple of High Street and OSU.  He raps for people and in exchange he (hopefully) gets some pocket change or a dollar from the kiddies.  His famous line is "Help is on da way!" and he says it with much enthusiasm.  When I saw him say this, for some bizarre reason it got me even more excited for the Cavs season (if that was even possible).  Help came in the form of Mo Williams.  I love DJ and Joe Smith, but they had to go.

What excites me the most is the help that is soon on the way.  What will Ferry do with his resources?  The only other team that scares me in regards of expiring contracts is Portland since they have a lot of young talent.  However, they have way too many good bigs and are probably interested in letting their expiring contracts expire and save money.  They have Brandon Roy, Greg Oden, LeMarcus Aldridge and a lot of other very nice players all on rookie contracts.  Why would they want to unload their expirings for veteran talent at this point?

Help is on the way and it already came.  This is very good news for a team that was oh-so very close to beating the NBA champs last season.

Is it November yet?  This should be a good season.
