Hey guys,

Long time lurker here...had to make an account to put this out there:

Some forums have rules about new users not being able to start threads until they've made a certain number of posts. I think this site could use something like that. There are new threads every day posted by people who clearly haven't been following any of the current threads. They don't know who's still on the team (Wally and Smith are not tradable commodoties), they don't know the cap rules (we can't sign Odom to a $40mil contract), and they don't know how to read or post in stickied threads.

I feel like there is a 5 to 1 ratio, or worse, of threads that aren't ridiculously redundant or wildly ill-informed...

Just my thoughts after wading through about 15 useless threads in a row...haha

Thanks,

Mike

I actually like the idea. It'll prevent trolls from starting threads also. Hopefully a few of the mods read this and take your idea into consideration.

It's a good idea the mods & administration have discussed.  The reason why it hasn't been implemented is because it would lead to post padding.  I'm sure we can all agree there are already enough "+1" posts as it is!

I'm tired of locking threads - "search" before you make a new one!

Amen

And anyone that posts links to the trade machine with a message that says, what do you guys think about this trade??? should be traded for another fanatic.

This has been discussed before and is fine to raise it again and see what people think about it.

Only it belongs in the CF suggestions forum and not in Rumor Mill (alto i realize that RM may be the particular forum where this idea is arguably most needed).

Thanks for the positive response guys...obviously my rule would have blocked my own post, but I'd gladly give it up! haha

Maybe the rule isn't a post count, but a length of membership, or a certain number of times logged on, or some combination...definitely don't need to encourage people to post more inane posts just so their post count is higher.

Maybe you can't make a thread until you've been a member for 2 weeks, read 100 posts, and made 10 posts, or something like that...just some sort of system that encourages involvement before being able to initiate thread...I think even a simple rule would cut down some of the chatter...

Mike

p.s. I do understand we could S&T Wally, but I cannot tell you how many "Let's trade Wally for Bosh" posts I've read here...haha

p.p.s. How about a system that won't let you post if 96% of the words in your message are either mispelled or aren't even words...u nw wt eye mene...plus bonus posts to people who use any punctuation at all and don't use caps lock! :-D

maybe some form of approval by a mod or a board of people selected do this in order to start a thread. or maybe a keyword search.
