As a die-hard Buckeye fan, I can't help but dislike every NCAA football analyst, not named Kirk Herbstriet, Robert Smith or Chris Spielman. Every time Ohio State is brought up to non-Buckeye alum, we hear the same garbage about how we never schedule any tough opponents, play in an inferior conference and walk ourselves into the national championship game every year. Of course, Buckeye nation knows that the hating is due to the jealousy and envy that fans of other teams or conferences have developed ever since 2001, when the decade of dominance first began with the championship win over Miami. Personally, however, I still can't help but let all the talk get to me. I'm certainly sick of seeing the same things said over and over again as every episode of 'College Football Live' passes by.
The one solution, and, in my opinion, the only fair way to do things, is to eliminate the mandatory 12th regular season game and have a 6 team playoff. Why six? It would be compared to a conference playoff in the NFL, with the top 2 teams getting first round byes, and would also almost completely eliminate the possibility of a 3-loss team getting a chance to be crowned national champions. Another positive would come from giving teams like Hawaii and Boise State, who come from smaller conferences, the ability to play for a championship in years like the past two, in which both had an undefeated season going into bowl games, but neither got a bid to the BCS championship. Also, though I hate the SEC with all my heart, I kind of feel like the current system is unfair to them as well. Whether you want to admit it or not, the SEC has had two or three of the best teams in the nation in each of the past few years. A 6 team playoff would enable 2 or, though unlikely, 3 teams from the same conference to battle it out for the crown. While it might not seem right to some to have half the teams in the playoffs from one conference, I feel as though it would be the best system to actually find out who the REAL best college football team in the country truly is.
Your thoughts?
My Cleveland Browns wishlist:
1. Replace Derek Anderson with Brady Quinn. (check) 2. Fire Romeo Crennel. 3. Hire Bill Cowher, Marty Schottenheimer or Brian Billick. 4. DO NOT trade Kellen Winslow. 5. Acquire a current or potential pro-bowler at linebacker, through draft, trade or free agency. |

I'd love to hear how soccer is a pee-wee sport...
and lou holtz picked us to go to the national championship again...
and a playoff system would be better, and more interesting, but i dont think they will ever do it |
