Here is the chat from Bill Ingram: http://www.hoopsworld.com/Chat.asp?CHAT_TOPICS_ID=107
I've been consistently reading through all the Chats on Hoopsworld and EVERY question asked about the Cavs making a trade usually has a response along the lines of "the cavs should stand pat" or "the cavs have indicated they will not make any moves"
However,
I was reading todays chat on Hoopsworld and found something very interesting. In one part of the chat these questions and answers were given:
Tony in Columbus, OH: Could the Cavs get Brad Miller and John Salmons for Sasha, Wally, and some fillers? Bill Ingram: I don't think so. Ferry said recently he's not looking to trade. Tony in North Canton, OH: Best post player that will be available to the Cavs for an expiring contract? Bill Ingram: Not sold they're looking for one. Maybe they can land Joe Smith if the Thunder buy him out. I wouldn't look for much more than that.
After reading these q/a's you might just pass them off as typical easy out answers for the chat host....however, read the next one......
Brett in Newport Beach, CA: (me)
Wally's contract is worth a lot more as a trade asset than it is coming off the books summer 09 Given this notion, if YOU were the GM of the Cavs and HAD to trade Wally, who do you think would be the best "realistic" pick up for the Cavs. Bill Ingram: I hate to speculate, as Ferry says he's not making a move . .
Again, nothing to special here, but if you couple this with the next one it makes you wonder.....
Who would you say is the hardest NBA team to get trade rumor info from? Which GM plays with smoke and mirros the most and feeds the most misinformation? Bill Ingram: As much as I could give you some great answers to that question, those same GM's read us all the time and I can't call them out like that . . .there are certainly some BSers out there . . .
Now, when I read this it makes me think. I wonder if Bill might have a personal relationship w/Ferry and might be protecting Ferry's plans as a sign of good faith so that Bill can continue to get information from Danny moving forward??? It almost makes sense as the question directly refers to GM's playing hard to get. Also, when you relate that info back to my question about Wally's contract, I gave Bill the opportunity to answer the question of which player HE would think would be best for Cleveland if HE was Danny Ferry and he again said he didn't want to SPECULATE. Is this because he doesn't want to ruffle any feathers with Ferry and ruin any of his plans????
I don't know, I find this all very interesting. What do you guys think? I think this could be an indication that Danny is up to no good. (in a good way)

Danny never gives away what he's up to, plain and simple. I'm sure he's listening to offers for Wally, but he's just waiting for the right one. |

For sure. Ferry really doesn't show his hands (there were murmurs of something happening before the "blockbuster" trade at the deadline, but none of them were really correct until it surfaced). The Mo thing there was some buzz for though I suppose, but nothing serious I don't think until within a day of it being done.
I'm not expecting to hear that we're doing anything with Wally's contract. And I'm not surprised Ferry's saying he's not looking to trade -- why would he say he wants to trade when we have the record and chemistry we do right now? He's not gonna say "yeah, I'm waiting for the right trade" because that could put players on edge.
I have faith that Ferry knows what he's doing here. I'm sure he's keeping options open, and am of the belief that he'll make a trade by the deadline.

The team has friendships with each other. Their playing to win playing with passion. They don't want trade rumors lingering over their players heads. The less believable they make it the less problems it will cause. |

I think Ferry would be crazy to NOT make a move. LeBron already hinted at signing a contract extension this summer. The ball is in Ferry's court and now he has to hit a homerun. It is clear to see that with the limited minutes and limited contributions Wally and Sasha provide this team, they offer little to the 'Chemistry' this team currently has. With Andy currently starting, and Boobie still not 100%, our bench is very weak with Wally and Sasha coming off of it. Our bench as it stands will not hold up when we encounter tough series in the playoffs.
The last thing I want to see happen at the end of this season is LeBron sitting at the podium after a tough playoff loss saying "we need to get better, and if it means personel changes then so be it." Personel changes need to be addressed now (or sometime before the trade deadline) so this team can be sure it is where it wants to be come playoff time. Can anyone honestly say there are comfortable enough with the inconsistant play of Wally and Sasha to help us through the playoffs? How many times can LeBron address the same thing before he gets fed up and may look into his free agency more seriously and eye other teams.
So basically, no way Ferry holds onto Wally's contract when there is reliable bench talent out there this team must have!

^^ Exactly. He needs to improve this roster for the future. If we let Wally expire, after this season we have nothing, and AV and Lebron possibly don't re-sign.
But if we get some young studs, and upcoming talent, this gives a reason for hope in the future and everyone will want to stay and come to Cleveland to play.
Ferry just doesn't want to expose anything. He may want to make it seem like he doesn't want to give up Wally so people offer more for him, who knows.
But I have faith that a move will be made, a REALLY good one.
Its the mistake on the lake to you but this is my home

this guy doesnt even think we are going to go for someone "and with are record we dont really need to at the moment" this guy seemed to stick to his guns about what ferry said as in not looking for trades, but he does seem that if joe smith gets a buyout he will come here, joe is the only player that is on a different team that he named in this entire article, hopefully he is right and we get joe |

Much like last season, I am willing to bet that Ferry cannot look at our current roster and feel as though we are set to win it all. Ferry will do whatever he can to make this team better, which includes moving Wally for some talent. |

Pretty much all of Ferry's moves have been under the radar and we dont hear about them until they happen.
Even his FA aquisitions. Even draft moves are hush hush and we have no idea who Ferry wants until whoever gets selected. Aside from the Gibson pick up...he was available in the 2nd and we were up and you knew Ferry was gonna snag him.
So I'm sure there will be a trade and we'll find out after it happens. |
