They would need to give up more than that to get Gay. but they will be willing to trade jaric, so lets see what i could come up with for a trade hmm...
Cavs trade Z (11 mil) JJ (1.4 Mil) Jackson (.7 Mil) plus 2 first round picks for Grizzlies Gay (3.2 Mil) Jaric (7.1 Mil) Hunter (3.7 Mil)
This will get rid of the contract of Jaric, but one problem i do see, memphis will still be under the cap, plus having Gay's bird rights, i dont see why they would let him go, since no one will offer more than a max contract to gay, which woul donly be i believe around 12 mil the first year, and actually i would think that trade would almost make the cavs better as well, since we get to veterans, but thats just my opinion, right now we wouldnt lose anything with that trade, but we will have to wait and see |

here is my idea on how to get Rudy Gay games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?trade...
First off, this trade would have to wait until David Lee can be traded and just switch out his name with Darko. I know thier salaries are slightly different, but all the knicks would have to do is throw in Marcus Landry to even them out, I just can't do it b/c they are currently untradable and I don' think the Grizzlies can even get Darko since they already traded him once. However with David Lee in there, Memphis gets young talent for Gay in Lee and Chandler which is more than they will probably get in any other trade. New York gets rid of Jeffries contract, and makes room for them to sign another max contract. On top of that they get Boobie who might help them get Lebron and Boobie would absolutely thrive in D'antoni's system. He would average 15ppg and be able to jack it up at will. This helps the Cavs and hurts the knicks this year, however it does the opposite next year in terms of Lebron so I think the knicks would definately consider this. Now I think if they were to agree before hand to waiving Z we could throw in a first round pick either this year or in the future. They would probably want it in the future since it would be in the late 20's this year for sure so maybe we give them a 2012 1st. They can either use Z who would also love D'antonis system since he can shoot from anywhere or waive him and he goes back to Cavs(ideal situation for cavs) It gives the Cavs a legit allstar/future superstar to pair with Lebron. He can play multiple positions and has the length and athleticism to be an absolute terror on D in Mike Browns system. In short Lebron might finally have his Pippen. Haddadi is not great, but when we have Powe back with Lebron playing the 4 next to MO, West, GAY and Shaq it won't be a big deal. You switch out Shaq for AV and that is a crazy transition team. I love the possibilities however I am sad that JJ had to go. This is by no means perfect for any of the teams, but with Memphis being cheap and double-double PF's harder to come by than wing scorers and them already having a future scorer in Mayo it might make sense to pay him rather than Gay. Plus Mayo and Gay don't get along and Lee fits perfect next to Thabeet when he develops. Its just an idea but I think it works for all teams. |

Of course I'd want Gay in a second. Memphis would be nuts to want a broken down center, who plays like he has arthritis in his entire body. Along with a young player who looks like a bust.
We'd have to do a West, Hickson, Z, first round pick, cash to make it interesting. Even that seems like a stretch. West might be in jail, so who knows. Gay would be a great addition and the guy makes a good point.

Memphis won't trade him now. I don't see it happening, but they might be forced to in the off-season.

Well right now, Memphis is in similar position in accordance to 2010 cap space as we are, if they were able to deal Jaric and somebody else along with Gay for Ilgauskas, etc... they would go from having little to no cap space to having approx $10+ mill in space.
Anderson Varejao is the best pick and roll defender in the league and I will fight you if you disagree.
When we look back in 3 years, everybody is going to say how much of a bargain Varejao's contract is I hope nobody freaks out when LBJ does his Tim Duncan impression and actually entertains offers this summer just to keep the organization on their toes before he signs a 3-4 year deal |

I think Memphis will be active at the deadline looking to shed cap after they realize they are still pretty bad. Bringing on Zach Ranolph was ridiculous. They just recently got rid of Pau Gasol who is a much better player and was being payed about the same salary. They have proven they are willing to make some ridiculous trades. I would be surpised if they don't attempt to make some cost cutting moves come the deadline.
