With issue 3 passing yesterday (which was huge for old danny boy) i got to thinking about Dan's ownership lebrons future. I think with this casino thing, asian minority owners, dan's willingness to pay the luxury tax, and winning culture dan gilbert alone is a good reason for lebron to stay. Lebron is a smart guy who has shown his own savvy for business and must respect others who are good at it. He must look up to Gibert a guy who turned around the cavs, created Fathead, and literally just got state wide laws changed. Gilbert may have not won anything yet but he sure has made all the right business moves to intise lebron to stay. Wouldn't he want to stay and play for an owner like that? The casino thing is going to help put cleveland back on the map as a place to go, the asian owners will help lebrons "global icon" desires, and lebron knows he has an owner who will do what it takes to win. What does everyone else think? |

It all depends how big LeBron's ego really is. I know in every interview he uses the world "humbled" but i dont really buy into it. I seen him play in High School, and his ego had a hard time fitting in the Gund Arena. In a lot of interviews, you can see his ego shine through at points. I dont think LeBron would be willing to share the spotlight with a player like Wade or Bosh... Stoudemire maybe. I think the only reason LeBron is ok with Shaq this year is because he knows its a 1 and done sort of thing. I honestly think LeBron wants to win, though. NY is going to be a disgrace. If he signs there, he is going to have to rebuild that franchise, and he will be a minimum of 3 to 4 years away from even smelling the NBA finals. The team that scares me the most is the Nets. They have a scoring point guiard, a young shooting guard, and potential nice power forward in Yi, and a nice emerging center in Lopez... it would seem all they are missing is a 3. Again, it's all up in the air. There is nothing we can do about it. It's going to come down to LeBron's ego, and if his willingness to win and become a true legend of the game is bigger than that ego. |

Dan Gilbert is a huge influence and has been making all the right moves behind the scenes. Something Ben Wallace said last year sticks in my mind... the person he trusts the most in NBA is Dan Gilbert... that says a lot. That said... LeBron's decision will be affected by how close we come to a championship this year. If Shaq gels and has a great season and a few more look possible, then the decision is easy. If Shaq struggles and we flop as a result, LeBron's decision will be affected by who the Cavs get back in trades for future runs. Winning a title this season isn't as important as our potential for next 4 seasons IMO. Winning this year could snake bite us if we are still unable to improve for next by not capitalizing on the expiring contracts in any way. Somewhere Ferry has to pull another rabbit out of his hat... either:
if we fail to move on one of those, the long-term outlook is LeBron and a bunch of role players... which can work, but doesn't guarantee many title shots. |

I'm with you except the big issue after this year is the Bigs. Z mentioned that he may consider retiring and Shaq is looking like this could be his last squeeze. We need to reach out and land one or two true bigs, not Chris Bosh. In the back of my mind, I am hoping Yao Ming fully recovers and can be influenced to come to Cleveland for the next 10 years. Backup aside, that would settle a lot of nerves. |

honestly dan gilbert will have influence on lebron staying, gilbert seems to want to win more than lebron, so he is willing to try almost anything to get out there and win, that is an owner a superstar should want to play for since, he is willing to go over luxuary tax and pay more to keep a winning team, and its really up to ferry and MB to finalize all of his plans, and i dont mind what ferry has done so far, he went out and got some good players, and some people are mad cause he hasnt been developing players, but you got to remember mo will is 26 west is about the same age, av is the same age, so its not like they are old, i am not happy we dont have a young center, but yeah, gilbert wants to win and he is willing to spend, and right now the knicks dont have a team, they have two players sign for 2010-2011 season, while the nets have some nice young pieces, i dont see lebron heading to the knicks, wouldnt make any sense, and with an owner who wants to win at any cost, he may as well stay in cleveland since he doesnt need any more extra marketing to get his name out |
