The Knicks aren't built to win. The Knicks are built to have as much money available during the next free agency period as possible. Period.
If I were a Knicks fan, I would be excited. They have a great coach. They have some young pieces in Gallinari, Chandler, and Lee and a decent PG in Duhon. They have a reputation for spending money to bring in talent. Obviously Isiah wasn't bringing in the right people, but he isn't there any more, is he? They have the allure of the city (a huge plus to most NBA players), and a big market means greater chances for additional income (marketing) to all but the top tier of superstars (guys like LeBron and Kobe are going to be major marketing money makers regardless of what team they are on).
The Knicks have the money to bring in two top free agents this summer (doesn't matter if LeBron is one of them or not) and reconfigure their roster. Look for them to make MAJOR improvements next season over this. You have to look at the big picture folks. |
