Tracy McGrady...why not?

Assuming that he's healthy, of course.

He has a $23 million dollar contract (for one year), but we can actually match that with Z and Wally Szczerbiak.  Long term, it doesn't cost us anything.  And then if Z is released and resigned after 30 days, we've lost nothing.  But what a gain.  Even if we just had him run the 2nd team  (along with Moon, West, Varejao, and D-block), imagine that kind of force coming off the bench.  But if he started at the 2-guard, along with Mo, Shaq, Lebron, and J.J., wouldn't that be insane?

I know, he's not in shape yet.  But we don't need him to make the playoffs.  We just need him IN the playoffs.

I guess I didnt realize Wally made 12 million lol.. We could probably sign Wally and throw Delonte in and maybe that would work but honestly Tmac is just hurt wayyyyy too much and i just dont know if he could mesh with our team

TMac's a giant expiring contract himself... what good is it to trade his expiring deal for two other expiring deals, especially if he's healthy?  There's no cap relief there, no talent, and no draft picks to help compensate such a move.  If he's healthy, he can help lead them to the playoffs, especially with the way they've played so far.  Just doesn't add up.

at first I was gonna reply with "Tracy McGrady.... Why????"

but then I read your post... and you know what there are a few scenarios where that could make some sense... he is currently disgruntled that Adleman won't let him come back yet even though he's in best condition in years... Rockets definately will move him but the biggest hurdle being why would Rockets trade McGrady's $22m expiring contract for expiring contracts and no talent in return... and for sure Rockets would want as much talent to rebuild with in return.

Their GM would be foolish to do anything except that... only way is if they are in a play-off hunt and really need Z (which is a small possibility given they lack a center, and Z would fit into their system temporarily as a poor man's Yao)... or if there was a 3rd team involved.

as for McGrady on the Cavs? I always thought he has an ideal skill-set and IQ to play off of LeBron at a great level. Even an old broken-down McGrady would flourish next to LeBron... if it came to not making any trades or doing this one... I would consider it, just on the upside that if McGrady does come back at least 80% we are a very dangerous team for the next few seasons. I like T-Mac a lot and think he would play very hard to win a championship... it's the only way he'll ever be considered for HOF. He needs a role like that at this stage of his career, and could be rejuvenated after healing his injuries.

If he really wanted to play for us, then he could sign as a free agent for MLE next summer.... trading Z and whatever other expendable assets we have should go to higher priorities than T-Mac... that is a high risk trade, but probably not worse than no trade at all. If it worked out best case scenario, our offense would be lethal.

Yeah idk if the Rockets even want him anymore..it seems they keep prolonging his return. Here's an article from yahoosports discussing the issue: sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=AuuHccmRy...

I've been giving this some thought... if the drama between Adleman and T-Mac becomes a distraction then the Rockets might be forced into a trade sooner than they'd expect... in which case they'll take best deal possible... not many teams except for the Knicks would probably jump into that.

but lets just say the Cabs decided to throw Z + Wally's sign and trade + Boobie + either a draft pick or Danny Green... the Rockets might just get desperate enough to pull trigger... Wally they can buy straight out to immediately get under luxury tax, Boobie would be returning home to Houston where he'd fit in nicely and either Danny Green or a draft pick gives them some futures to build around.

if Z came back through buy-out/waivers, then I wouldn't mind taking a gamble on T-Mac if that fell into our laps. His $23m expiring isn't a huge financial risk... so it's all a matter of how desperate the Rockets get to drop pay-roll for this season if they become like Suns were with Shaq. If he decided to re-sign for way less, I think we could get another 3 good years out of McGrady... his IQ is so good that I think he can still be an all star even at 80%.

Great trade idea, especially if we can get Z back from a buyout. I'm sure Boobie would love to come home to Houston, but I think Delonte would be better suited to be in that deal. Delonte can be bought out for cheap and they already have Brooks and Lowry(who they really like) so bringing in Delonte and just buying him out at the end of the year clears up cap room and gives them another player that they can also trade next year when he is an expiring. I'm not completely opposed to it but i would want to get Z back from a buyout because without Z the only legitimate center off the bench we have is Andy because we just dont have that much size off the bench without him quite frankly.

If Z and Wally* will take a buyout cheap, it makes it worth it.  Even having Z on the bench is probably worth more than having McGrady on the bench for the Rockets.  They seem to want to get rid of him, thanks to their making the Western Conference Finals without him.

There are very few teams who could trade for McGrady, even if they wanted to.  I mean, he's over a third of the salary cap all by himself.  Yes, we might have to sweeten the deal up a little, but really, how much can they expect for a player that they don't seem to want and few teams can trade for?

*Imagine:  Wally signs a $13M 1 year deal, gets traded to the Rockets, and takes a $500K buyout.  That's half a million dollars without leaving his chair.  America, what a country!

I would love having T-mac coming off our bench when he is healthy he is great..Maybe since who wouldn't have to play so much he would stay healthy. When he is hot he is one of the best.
