08/09 Cavs Expectations, Predictions, and lineups

Now that we have Mo, I'm assuming West ends up going.  I don't know if we will get anyone for him.  But lets say we get rid of him.  We need a PF.  Tell me who you think we should go after.  My expectations for the 08/09 season are for us to be at least the 3 seed in the East.  Mo will make us better but its not like he makes us an immidiate contender for a NBA championship.  If we develop exceptional team chemistry and better offensive schemes we can definately go far into the playoffs.  The east got a lot better this offseason so it should be tough,   I expect the Cavs to make it to the finals.

At PG 1. Mo Williams/ Delonte West (if still here)/Daniel Gibson

At SG 2. Wally/Daniel/Sasha

At SF 3. LeBron James/Kinsey/Sasha (Sasha and Kinsey might flip)

At PF 4. Ben Wallace/J.J. Hickson/ Darnell Jackson

At C 5. Z / Varejao/ Allred

The weak spots the are obvious to me are the Power Forward, and SG gaurd spot excluding Boobie.  I hope Hickson can be an immidiate impact and contribute some minutes to relieve some pressure from aging big ben such as Ben and Z.  I didn't include Eric Snow, Devin Brown ( probable already left im not sure),  and those two D-league players.

My questions to you guys are..

1. What are your expectations (realistically)

2. What lineup we will have,  who will be a solid scoring option other than Mo, Z, LBJ, and Boobie?

3.  If we don't have West or even if we do.  Who should we go after for a big man option?

The situation that we're in right now is about as good as possible,
besides actually having the best roster in the game. What I mean is
that Ferry just made a big move to shore up the point guard spot, and
there are still many oppurtunities that could/should arise as time
moves forward. For example, Delonte West, whether he signs the QO or
not, is a valuable trade piece at this point. He could be shipped in a
sign and trade to bring in a PF or he could be used in a later
blockbuster, along with Wally, towards the trade deadline. I'm not
exactly sure who all is available as of now, but I've seen Udonis
Haslem's name thrown around and I think that makes sense. He's a big
that's not a scorer, but can score, and goes all out on defense and
rebounding. With Miami's point guard situation (Chris Quinn, Marcus
Banks, Mario Chalmers), it's possible that they would do a deal that
would basically swap Delonte and Haslem.

Doing this would take the attention to the shooting guard spot.
Wally is fine here, imo, but with a $13 million expiring contract it's
hard not to think that he would be shopped hard towards the deadline,
which could possibly bring in a shooting guard. In a perfect world,
that shooting guard would be Michael Redd, but since we've already
stolen one player from the Bucks, and the fact that Redd and Mo don't
like each other, I think we can forget about that. However, every year
we see at least one or two borderline all-stars that get disgruntled on
losing teams and demand to be traded. Obviously, it's hard to predict
what, if any, shooting guards will be available at that point. But I
expect Ferry to be active in finding a championship-caliber player to
go along with a starting 5 that, if you added Haslem and a good SG,
would be one of, if not the very best, in the NBA.

So,
to answer your question about my expectations for this season, I
haven't made any yet.  I believe that Ferry still has some magic up his
sleeve that will make us a powerhouse in the NBA.  As far as scorers go, obviously LBJ and Mo are 1 and 2.  Z will be the 3rd option on most nights and Boobie will likely be 4th.  I would expect Wally to be our 5th scorer, maybe even 4th, depending on whether or not he decides to learn how to shoot again.  After that, there's not much scoring left to be had, so it'll likely be a game-to-game thing.  One thing is for sure, though... I can't wait til November.

Rant = over.

My Cleveland Browns wishlist:

1. Replace Derek Anderson with Brady Quinn. (check)
2. Fire Romeo Crennel. (check)
3. Hire Bill Cowher, Marty Schottenheimer or Brian Billick.
4. DO NOT trade Kellen Winslow.
5. Acquire a current or potential pro-bowler at linebacker, through draft, trade or free agency.

Can't make a prediction until the season starts, because we still could package Wally and someone else for a starter. If the team stays this way, we should have a good frst half. The real prediction than comes after the trade deadline, depending on if we got another good all-star type player. Were going in the right direction so far though.

Assuming we have a healthy Mo and Frountcourt, I would say we would win 55 games because this trade did not overhaul the entire roster. Meaning are players will have good on-court awareness of each other forming solid plays.

PG: Mo Williams / Daniel Gibson

SG: Wally Szczerbiak / Sasha Pavlovic / Tarence Kinsey

SF: LeBron James / Sasha Pavlovic /

PF: Ben Wallace / Big Man ( trade with D. West) / J.J. Hickson / Darnell Jackson

C: Zyndrunas Ilgauskas / Anderson Varejao

Assuming we land a Shooting Guard, or a Big Man in a mid-season trade, I think we can get to the Finals. Only if we make a trade for another scorer without completely overhauling the roster.

I suppose by the end ov the trade deadline, we should look something like this:

Mo/Boobie

Starting SG/Pavs

LeBron/Kinsey

Ben/Quality backup/J.J.

Z/AV

Note that Wally will most probably be traded, as will other guys not mentioned here, but there might be a chance, AV is traded instead of someone else.

I hope we could get a starting PF rather than backup, so this is really my minnimum expectation.

And I'd be very dissapointed if we didn't do those things .
