Hey Golfer- thanks for all the posts and great info. Im trying to understand the EXCEPTIONS. Say arbitrarily that cavs salary is 80 mil. Now if u were to take the MLE and BAE and ROOKIE exceptions then wouldnt that potentially be (5.854 + 1.672 + rookie) around 7.526 mil (+ rookie). And then u would take total salary 80 mil and minus the exceptions from that (80-7.526)= $72.474 mil in order to calculate true amount to figure amount over luxury tax? If u can give me thread explaining how that stuff works it would help. Thanks! (info i know so far i got from wikipedia).

Chuck, I just got around to updating my numbers for the 2009/10 season (first post in this thread). From those numbers, our team salary as of today is about $78 million. That could change by the end of the season. The team salary used for determining the luxury tax payment is the team salary as of the final day of the season. If our team salary stays at (about) $78 million, our luxury tax hit will be about $8 million. The exceptions are not subtracted from the team salary.

Wow. Ok thanks for info and response. This unfortunately confuses me further as to figure out why or how there are EXCEPTIONS and/or why they are even required. . . (if baseline of determining salary and luxury tax is simply the total cost of all salaries)

well . . ok. . maybe EXCEPTIONS are just another way of paying player more under CBA. I was thinking it had something to do with salary of team.

Read this for an explanation of exceptions. Read this for an explanation of what is included in the determination of team salary. There will be a quiz tomorrow.

I don't want to here it anymore. Dwade has to come here. It's our best chance of keeping LeBron and winning a championship. Instead of finding ways for him not to be here whe should focus on finding scenarios that could make it possible= championship!!!!

only ways to get wade are if Miami wants to trade him him to us, or if Wade will sign for the MLE, not likely
