Thomas and Aldred are probably not going to make it past training camp.  They are likely just on the training camp teams or for non-guaranteed salary to include in a trade.  We'll likely see Aldred replaced with a physical veteran center and Thomas replaced by a quick young guard like Mike Green before the end of October.

Snow may or may not get waived before the season starts, depends on the state of his retirement paperwork and some other factors.  If the retirement doesn't go through, he might stay on the roster.  If the team thinks Snow will be a valuable trading chip, he might stay on through the season just for trades.  If the team finds a cheap young prospect they want to keep, the might waive Snow for just for roster space.

I dont put much faith into getting a star player in 2010, it just doesnt seem likely to me. It would be great to land Bosh, but expecting him or any of those players to leave about 20 million on the table to join the Cavs is no different than all the people thinking LeBron will leave the Cavs.

I think the best opportunity is to flip Wally's contract for a all-star type player this year, and Ben's contract next year. I've always been of the mindset it's risky to hope for a player at the deadline, but it's an even bigger risk to wait for 2010.

Douglar, in storyteller's link, it shows that Z's contract for 2009/10 is not guaranteed.  What is your take on that?

Douglar, in storyteller's link, it shows that Z's contract for 2009/10 is not guaranteed.  What is your take on that?

Back in 2005, there were some rumors that the final year of Z's contract was not guaranteed if he didn't play enough games. http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-133936705.html

. It is believed the fifth year of the deal is not fully guaranteed, but Ilgauskas can make it guaranteed if he reaches certain games-played incentives.

But.....

1)  I don't know if the CBA lets you can write contracts like that.  You cannot have incentives based on the number of games played.  Maybe Brian messed up his terminology and this wasn't an "incentive" but something else.  Even if this is true, Z has likely played enough games at this point to get it guaranteed, IMO.

2) There were also rumors at the time that Z's contract is fully guaranteed. http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=14843727&BRD=1699&PAG=461&dept_id=4637%200&rfi=6

Negotiations had been stuck between Ilgauskas' agent, Herb Rudoy, and the Cavaliers. The team reportedly offered four years and Rudoy wanted an additional season.

Supposedly, Ilgauskas took a bit less money for the additional guaranteed season

At this point, I'd say the odds are that Z's final year is guaranteed if I had to guess.  Currently Varejao's 2010 season is not guaranteed if he's waived before he excecises his player option.

Wow this editor is horrible--

p.s. Here are the current storeyteller numbers.  Your link is last years--  It changes every July. http://www.storytellerscontracts.info/resources/08-09salaries.htm

you can take Eric Snow off the list. He retired sighting the left knee injury as the cause which will clear that 7+mil when the insurance red tape is finished. Maybe we can turn that money around and hire him as an assistant coach!

Get excited Cleveland! our Cavs are championship bound!

While it is very unlikely that he ever plays again, he hasn't officially retired yet and even when he does, it isn't clear if the team will waive him to free up the roster spot or if they'll keep him his contract on the roster for trades.  Unless he's traded, his salary still counts against the salary cap for the Cavs this season, so he'd stay on the list.

The veteran guard is retiring and will not play this season because of
chronic problems with his left knee stemming from an injury last year.
If the claim is accepted, the team could save more than $10 million
when combining insurance coverage and luxury tax savings.

Right now, Snow's salary is still included in our team salary.  If and when that changes, I will update my list.

Yeah, Snow is in the process of retiring.  It's not clear how that's going to work out in the end though.  He could get  waived, traded, or he might even end up holding a spot on the roster until the end of the year even though he doesn't play.

In the mean time, Snow still counts as a player on the Cavaliers salary cap.
