Read the first post in this thread.
Our team salary summer 2010 will be about $41 million in team salary (for salary cap purposes). We can offer LeBron the maximum salary (about $18 million) using our Larry Bird exception - we don't need cap space.

not to say that this is going to happen, but i was just thinking down the road a little bit....if the Cavs were to trade for Michael Redd this season for Wally + whatever else it took....also assuming that Redd would exercise the player option on his contract meaning the Cavs total salary for the 2010/2011 season would be 41 + 18 million....I am getting the 41 based on Golfer's estimation.....would the Cavs be able to go after a guy like Chris Bosh or Amare Stoudamire and still offer the max contract? Also, if the answer to that question is yes, then would it be possible to still fill out the roster without breaking some sort of luxury cap rule or something like that....I am not completley fluent with the NBA cap structure....could someone who knows let me know? thanks so much!! Go Cavs!!! |

zero wat dah heck kobe sucks why would a passing team get a ballhog ill pick lebron all over kobe anyday wait look if we get kobe then mo and delonte wont score that much because kobe will just take the ball and get the shot for himself all he cares about is his stats lebron find every single open man and gives them the ball so they could make a move great example lebron + andy = and 1 layup |

If we traded Wally for Redd (assuming Milwaukee would do it), we would not have enough cap space to go after Bosh/Amare/Wade/Joe Johnson summer 2010.
If we trade Wally for any player with a "big" contract in the 2010/11 season (such as Vince Carter, Kenyon Martin, Troy Murphy, etc), we would not have enough cap space to go after Bosh/Amare/Wade/Joe Johnson.
The basic question is: do we trade Wally this season for someone like Redd or Carter and lose our cap space summer 2010.

hey thanks so much for the info....thats what i figured the answer was.....i think that as long as this team is playing this well they shouldnt change anything except for maybe a minor trade to get one more post player who can score with his back to the basket (i.e. Joe Smith)..... |

I dont think the cavs have much of a shot to land bosh or wade anyways so why not trade for g-wal or redd forget carter tho he is too old. Wade will go to the bulls or NYK Bosh will go to Det or stay in Tor Amar will stay with the suns hoping they can land someone with all the cap they will have with nash and Oneal of the books Joe johnson would be a fool to go away from a good young ATL team. so best i think we could get is a dirk or some star not all star or super star. |

I see your point, but I dont think it is that cut and dry....I think the Cavs will have a good chance of landing a guy like Bosh or Joe Johnson....I dont think Johnson would be foolish to leave a good young Atlanta team for the Cavs...with the core group the Cavs already have he would make them probably the team to beat for 5 years or so....there are a lot of things that can happen in 2010 and I dont think the Cavs should give up the cap flexibility....I think if they can add one more guy who can score in the post (Joe Smith, Channing Frye, David Lee, etc...) they will have a great shot to win a title...maybe I'm wrong, but I think this Cavs team as is right now is a lot better than they get credit for nationally... |

well i would hope that Center is a position that is addressed through the draft not only this coming summer, but also summer of 2010....and yes Bosh could play center and JJ could play PF....also something i was thinking about was Z's contract assuming he wold pick up the option on it for next season will be a free agent after 2010 season....is it possible that he would still want to play a couple more years? would he still be pretty effective? could provide a little depth just for a couple more years maybe? i would imagine we could sign him to a franchise friendly contract for like 2 or 3 seasons and that would have him playing till he is 37 or 38..... |
