Rock Financial cuts Pistons Sponsorship The Michigan-based mortgage lender is no longer the major sponsor for the Detroit Pistons, the NBA team and The Palace of Auburn Hills said Tuesday.
Rock Financial's parent company, Livonia-based Quicken Loans Inc., is owned by Dan Gilbert. Quicken has decided to focus its marketing efforts toward the NBA team that Gilbert owns, the Cleveland Cavaliers, who happen to play in Quicken Loans Arena, Dan Hauser said. -- The Detroit News
# "Quicken Loans, our national lending platform, has a national NBA sports presence through our relationship with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena. Rock Financial is a local brand, and it makes more sense to channel our marketing attention toward our national Quicken Loans platform," Elizabeth Jones, Quicken's vice president of communications, wrote in an e-mail statement to Crain's Detroit Business. -- Crain's Detroit Business
First of all why was the funding not cut as soon as Gilbert bought us. Granted there really wasnt a Cavs-Pistons rivalry when he bought us, but I think since 2006 Gilbert has realized he cant support Detroit anymore. I hope this money goes to the 2010 offseason!!!

This was actually a concern for me. I mean having the owner of your team financially support and sponsor arguably your biggest rival. I'm glad they cut ties.
