Whatever happens with West, I hope it happens in the next week because I'm not about to watch another hold out situation leave us weak in training camp...

It is difficult to be patient, even for me.

Just remember that we didn't sign Drew Gooden until September 11 (back in 2006) - and that was not a real contentious negotiation.

I have faith that Danny will have Darnell and Delonte signed by the start of training camp.

Nice Article.

The Cavs need to keep Delonte though. Him and Gibson are 2 totally different players and therefore it is a huge advantage to have BOTH of them on our team because they can contribute in different ways at key times. I truly feel that we can have a very solid backcourt if Delonte is given the opportunity to start at SG. He can also be used at backup PG when the situation calls for it.

I highly doubt Delonte sits out. I feel him and his agents are waiting to the last moment but eventually they will give in to a multiyear deal. Other teams don't want to bother making an offer because it's simple to realize that we will match. Hopefully a resolution is just around the corner.

I think its a good move to keep Delonte West. He's versatile enough to play backup PG and SG. He also adds balance to the position....both Mo and Boobie are smaller guys who at times could be defensive liabilities. Delonte if anything is a "stick his nose in there" guard. While Mo brings his PG skills, speed and scoring ability - Delonte brings toughness, defense as well a little scoring punch.

By re-signing West we have true firepower off the bench with Boobie and Delonte coming into a game.

Once we add a true starting caliber SG, our backcourt for the first time in years will be SOLID. Delonte would be a great utility player for this team.

In one season we rid our selves of Eric Snow/DJ/Larry= all guys who were incomplete PG's. With Mo and Delonte we have the best PG tandem weve had in the LeBron era.

Okay, BYC question.

For example Delonte gets a 5 mil/yr deal.

Do we take in only half, which would be 2.5? Or would the other team only take in 2.5?

We can only take in half. not the other team.

Wrong. His outgoing value (the amount the other team takes in) becomes half. We have to take in the full contract value.

In other words, if he signs to $5 mil and he gets signed and traded, we have to match $5 mil, the receiving team only matches $2.5 mil.

And IMO we shouldn't keep him. We need help up front BADLY. We already have too many guards and Delonte's presence is only going to take away from Boobie's and Kinsey's minutes, or vice versa. Right now we have 5 players that can play backup 2 guard and none that can start. We also don't have a starting caliber PF, or a real backup center. Those are big problems. If Ferry can move West, Snow and a pick or something of that nature to fill maybe two of those holes, we are in a much better position than we are now. And we can always go out and sign a third string PG with part of the MLE if necessary.

I know Delonte is difficult to trade because of that BYC ****. But it really sounds like it couuld happen.

But sounds definite that Ferry WANTS Delonte to sign longterm and isnt tryin to ship him out just because we got Mo. BUT it really sounds like we're getting further apart in contract talks so Ferry is probably on the phone with some teams.

I realise it would be great to have depth at the point but with our big rotation as  it is, there shouldnt be a question of whether we should trade him. Plus he'll take away Boobie's playing time, and most think this should be a breakout year for Boobie.

I really think we could get something pretty decent for Delonte. Haslem would be my first choice but not sure Ferry would do it because he cant play center so he woukd take away JJ Hickson's playing time.

But IF we could get a Haslem or Channing Frye for Delonte I believe that makes us potentially the best team in the East.

The only types of players that would make Ferry consider giving up West right now would be either a top 20 SG talent or a solid young center on an affordable contract.  I really don't see Ferry trading for an undersized PF on the down side of his career right after drafting Hickson and Jackson.  Cavs wouldn't look to do that unless there are multiple long term injuries or the rookies turn out to be complete Shannon Brown's.  And even then, they'd probably look at other options before Haslem.

The team doesn't have a quick SG right now (Wally and Sasha play more like forwards and Kinsey is unproven).  Mo Williams and Gibson are likely to miss 25 games between the two of them this season.  West can fill in at either guard spot and the Cavs need someone to fill in at guard this season.  Cavs still need Delonte.

That said, I think that between West, Sasha, and Wally, there will probably be some player movement this season, but the Cavs don't give up West unless there is a really good deal and the other team wants West, and there is a way to handle the BYC issues in the deal.

people need to stop swinging from boobie.

NEVER.

Anyway, am I the only one that views it as a stretch for this guy calling Delonte "one of the best young point guards in the NBA"?

How am i wrong? We sign him for 5mil, we can only take back half? Is what i said. We could only bring back in a contract for 2.5 mil.
