Tarence Kinsey

Hey folks, I am not a huge Cavs fan but I am a big Game**** fan and Tarence Kinsey is my all time favorite Gamecock.

I was just wondering what his prospects were for this season, i.e. how was Mike Brown planning on using him?

I would think that they want him to be a contributer since they approached him and signed him to a two year deal.  His time in Memphis was conflicted as management changed hands so I wouldn't read in to him being cut last year, that was a simply a business decision made by a front office who wasnt responsible for bringing him aboard.  Jerry West was the one who signed Kinsey and believed he had real NBA potential and some of that was realized late in his rookie season.  I know you can say they were meaningless games but he was named rookie of the month for the last month of the season after starting 12 games for the Grizzlies

This I can assure Cavs fans this about Tarence; you will not be disappointed in his effort.  He is a young man who worked tremendously hard to become a very good ball player here at South Carolina and has truly earned his way on to two NBA teams.  He has a sick one dribble pull up move that is basically unguardable, he plays hard on defense but struggles against bigger stronger players because he is slight of stature.  He can get to the rim and finish a little better than he has shown overall in his NBA career (for some evidence youtube him dunking on Andre Kirilenko).

I hope that he gets a chance because I believe he can help the Cavs win some games, especially with guys like Mo Williams and obviously LeBron who dominate the ball Kinsey is nto someone who needs a whole lot of touch's to be effective, he will shoot the ball efficiently and play hard even if he isnt getting involved on offense.

did you just say "you would think they want him to contribute because they went out and gave him a 2 year contract"?

you would think that since he's the LOWEST PAID PLAYER ON THE TEAM, they wouldn't want him contributing for nothing more than a 12th man and emergency guard

stop being a homer, there were plenty of players on Memphis that Jerry West brought in, they're still on the team.  Kyle Lowry is a good example of that one.  A PG on a team with 2 other young PGs, they have refused to trade Lowry even though he wasn't brought in by Wallace and company.

It's a simple fact, if you're good, they'll keep you.  If you're worth the money, they'll pay you.  Tarence Kinsey is worth the lowest salary on the Cavs roster for a reason.  move along

Many players looked real good in college, but just didn't cut it on the NBA.

Kinsey was undrafted (2006 draft).  He is signed to a one year (minimum salary) contract, that is not fully guaranteed (from the sources I can find).  I really like his size, his youth (24), and his potential.  He could be a real "find" - I hope he is.

We need a SG with size, that can play good D and can make the open J (he shot 46% in his first season).  I hope he makes the roster and contributes this season - then we can say adios to Sasha.

I don't know why some folks are so down on TK! What's not to like? We got him for nothing and at a position that needed bolstering--not so much for offense, but for perimeter defense. We need a long, athletic wing to cover guys like Rip and Ray.

I hate the way it seems other teams can mine talent from the depths of obscurity, but the Cavs rarely do (besides Gibson). Maybe he'll turn into Kevin Martin! Could be Shannon Brown. Maybe not. But whatever, let's give the guy a chance (as if we have any say). I realize he hasn't played a game for us yet and, as such, is still unproven. However, Memphis fans seemed legitimately distraught that he was traded. They must have seen something in him they liked and I think it was a young kid who can knock down open shots, has good shot selection, can defend and at a bargain price.

I, for one, can't wait to see him play. Smile

What he said.  Anyone who can put a fire under Sasha and Wally is good in my books.  Especially if at one point this guy was putting up 18 PPG and defending the other team's best wing player.

Ferry got him for nothing.  What's not to like about that?  How many people who are saying he will suck have ever even seen him play?  Unless they had League Pass and followed the Memphis Grizzlies religiously two years ago, I am willing to bet none.

Kris is no homer, he is a Tarence Kinsey fan, who knows his game and has only posted once.  I want to say to him that the fans are willing to give this guy a chance, and it seems like he is fast and good defensively.  That's what we need at the 2.  If he can dunk, he is better than most of our team.

kinsey averaged 18.8 pts a game as a starter (extended minutes - 41, but still,) over 8 games

he plays good D, i for one hope him to succeed for the cavs, the same i hope for wally, sasha, lorenzo wright, jj, darnell, and so on to succeed

kinsey was brought in as a reserve..... he has an upside.... he can cause some trouble to players like kobe at some stretch.... sasha is just dumb, lazy and typical soft euro player.... i have given up on that lazy bum a long time ago....

I am hoping for good things from Kinsey.  I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he beats out sasha for the starting 2 spot at some point...if he can produce like it seems he is capable of (and did, when starting...)

If nothing else tho, he gives us another option, and added depth.

I actually want Sasha or Kinsey to play some decent minutes at SG considering our undersized backcourt. I'll be honest, i have no idea how Mike Brown will set the rotation of guards. But this year, i expect all the guards to step up in their game for more playing time.
