Can we please sticky a Gerald Wallace thread, please mods?

His name shows up in just about every thread on these boards and it's obvious most of us want him.

I think we could use more backcourt scoring. Delonte averages 10 ppg. And is small.

Carter brings another guy who can score and a big body.

Carter can score better than Delonte Z and Mo. Vince would spread the floor and be a huge help. I'm sure alot of people said the Celtics could win with Allen and Pierce. Then they got Garnett. Who knows if they needed Garnett but it made a big difference.

carter would bring a huge scoring threat. I want to win a championship, who cares about his contract? I'll take a chmapionship this year over anything

I don't see why trading Carter for Wally is even a question. Wally is awful. Carter is still pretty good. He'd put us over the top IMO.

And people need to stop worry about 2010. I feel like so many people on here are more worried about 2010 then us actually winning a championship before then.

But scoring was not the celtics problem....

Garnett gave them more then offense, he game them defense.

Plus our back court numbers with Mo, West, and Gibson are just fine. 10ppg might not look like a lot, but when all your guards are scoring in double digits its more than enough.

I think VC's team makes him look bad but oh well I don't really think that we need him.  If it was a Wally/VC trade straight up I would do it in a heartbeat but besides that I wouldn't do it.

I would like Wallace, but I think a low post threat is the MOST important thing for us to find right now. This game against the Pistons showed me that. They shut down the lane in the 3rd and we had no one to go to down low so rather than running the offense and FORCING our way into the paint (not sure it would have gotten us far anyway) we just chucked up jumpers. When they're falling that's fine, but tonight they weren't in the second half.

If we had a legitimate post presence we wouldn't have to be as concerned about that. We could just dump it down low for some easy points or to create offense/lanes for other players. When we don't play a ton of transition ball (and we didn't tonight cause we had to crash the boards) we NEED someone on the block. Any team that plays in the halfcourt a lot needs a post presence. We used to have one in Z, but coupled with the fact that we are keeping him off the block to preserve his body, he is just generally a step slow now. He's no longer effective unless playing against a bad or inexperienced post defender.

Yes, Wallace would bring us some elite perimeter defense which in turn would make us probably the best defensive team in the league. But we also need scoring inside. It's very tough to win against elite defensive teams in the playoffs when ALL of your scoring comes from the perimeter. And that's the situation we're looking at currently. Even Z's points are coming mostly outside. LeBron is the only guy scoring big and consistently in the paint and he refuses to work on the block a lot more often than he agrees to. WE NEED A POST PLAYER!!!

Well what else are we going to get with Wally's contract. People saw the Gasol trade last year and thought that everyone with a huge expiring contract will be traded for a superstar. It doesn't work like that.

Gerald Wallace will not be a good fit.
1) He'll be forced to play out of position, or Lebron will.
2) He won't be able to score with Lebron. Swingmen who are labeled as "slashers" don't compliment Lebron well

For those of you who say Carter is on the decline look at Wallace. The guy has a history of concussions and his numbers are down:
PPG down 4.0 points
FG% down 2.6%
3PT% down 2.1% (30%)
APG down 1.7

Carter
PPG up 1.3 points
FG% down 0.2%
3PT% up 1.1%
APG up .3

Wallace is in more of a decline offensively. Carter is a better fit and and better player.

1. He, like lebron, does not have a pure position. He would not have to log huge minutes every game, he could fit in where neccesary for defense or match up purposes. When we go against a dominant 2 guard like Kobe, he'd be there to guard. When we go small, he could play the the 3 or 4 with Bron. Ultimate lineup flexibility...something we didn't have last night when Mo and West got into some foul trouble...

2. He will be able to score with Lebron when we go against teams with smaller front courts. The combo of he and Lebron would punish small teams on the inside and draw all types of defense, giving our sharp shooting guards more looks than they already have. Plus we don't need him to contribute big scoring numbers everynight, we are already doing that with our back court. Also, when Lebron is resting you get the dangerous combo of Wallace at sf and Mo at pg, which is pretty formidable without your best player on the floor.

Geralds numbers are down because he is forced to carry a bad team who is anemic offensivley with their leader J-rich out.

He is the PERFECT fit.

I should get paid by Gerald Wallace lol.

he isn't the perfect fit because he's basically the same type of player like lebron. but i agree with you he would definitely be an upgrade on our current sg especially defensively
