Does anybody realize.......

that we'd most likely have to deal our 1st rounder in a deal to get Baron Davis, Michael Redd, Elton Brand, or any other star?

we don't have any solid young talent that we want to deal away, anybody that would really be considered a solid piece.  For instance Boston had Jefferson to offer to minnesota for Garnett but didn't have a piece to offer Seattle for Ray Allen so they had to deal the rights to Jeff Green.  In deals like the kidd deal, devin harris was teh counter piece for that superstar deal, and in order for phoenix to get shaq, they had to deal marion as their counterpiece.

We don't have a guy like Harris, or Jefferson, or Marion, so everybody is sitting here saying "well we can get baron davis then draft ....."  well I hate to break it to you, but that ain't happening.

We're giving up the 19th pick if we're adding a piece, I hate to be the one who points it out.

this is true but there are still ways to keep our pick and the main way is to take on bad contracts from other teams such as redd and dan gad or simmons. the only way we get davis is if he opts out of his contract.

Who cares? Its the 19th pick in the NBA DRAFT. The Browns traded away their 2nd and 3rd rounders for proven players and everyone is happy. The draft is a crapshoot, especially in basketball. Id take a proven player over a draft pick any way. I would trade any pick in this draft but 1 or 2 for Baron Davis or Mike Redd. People overrate draft picks so much in football and basketball. Just take a look at our draft history. Id take BD or Redd over a 19th pick any day. Does anyone really think the guy we get at 19 is gonna be better one day than Redd or Davis anyway?

Larry Hughes is STILL HORRIBLE

Our most important need in the draft is getting a young big man to replace Z and Z's got a couple years left in him still.  Im not worried about giving up this pick cause we'll have a chance next year to get a young big man.  Who knows maybe we'll get a sleeper big man through trades that just needed to be on the right team to shine.  I guess what im saying is I'll throw away that pick if we can get Bron some reliable offense.

oh don't get me wrong, i'm all for it.  It's just, I keep seeing people write stuff in threads saying that we should "get baron davis, then draft so and so"

I was just merely pointing that out because I got sick of saying it in all the threads

Wouldn't we trade a future pick since you can't trade consecutive picks?

It would most likely be the rights to this pick

Oh okay, well I'd be more for a future pick traded though since this draft seems quite deep.

yeah I would too, but the problem is that not only do we know it's a pretty deep draft, but so does whatever team we'd be trading with.

and with this trade, I'd imagine that it would be a draft day trade, something along the lines of when jason richardson being traded to charlotte, that kind of timing

I feel pretty much the same. If we have to include this year's pick..well I'd rather not, but oh well

Cavs 2009 offseason wish list (revised v1.3):

1. Trade Ben for an all-star quality player (CHECK)

2. Trade up in the draft or buy a pick to get Terrance Williams or Earl Clark (FAIL)

3. Now that Parker is a done deal, land C. Frye, L. Klezia, or B. Bass using the rest of the MLE (CHECK, I like J. Moon)

4. Sign a promising player or role player to the BAE like G. Green

5. Resign Joe Smith to the vet min. Then Andy to a reasonable contract (Half-CHECK)

6. Trade for a real PF with a jump shot

If management is looking to draft either Rush or CDR, then I would like to keep this pick because I think they could serve as decent back-ups, but if they are looking at big men, I would say deal it or trade the rights of the big we draft because I personally don't like the bigs that we could get at #19. Unless Kevin Love by some miracle drops to #19, deal it away...
