The thing is, it already HAS happened this entire season if you are a Cavs fan (which I know you are). This season has been filled with moments that would fall under the category of "Amazing." We have seen unbelievable dunks, unthinkable blocks, triple doubles, career highs, all-time records being broken, NBA best in categories and records and a division title just to name a few. But that's not the goal. That's not the dream. That's not "The Quan," as Cuba Gooding, Jr. called it in Jerry Maguire. No, we have our sights set on something bigger this season. So where will Amazing happen this year? My prediction is that it will happen in June at The Q.
What's been your most "amazing" moment this season?
It's been a good year for teams that I support who have gold as one of their primary colors. Let's take a look back shall we:
Youngstown Ursuline Fighting Irish (aka "The U", aka "THE Academy, aka The Ursuline High School Academy of Arts and Sciences) - The Green and GOLD won the Division 5 Ohio High School football championship. "Fight fight Ursuline High!"
Notre Dame Fighting Irish - The golden domers FINALLY got off the schneid and won their first bowl game since Christ turned water into wine. OK, it wasn't that long but sure felt like it. "...while her loyal sons go marching onward to victory."
Pittsburgh Steelers - Look, I know that there are a lot of Browns fans on our beloved CavFanatic site and so as to not upset anyone over the black and gold's NFL record 6th Super Bowl victory, I'm not going to say anything more than that.
What could be left? Let's daydream:
The Wine and Gold win their 23rd straight at The Q tonight, breaking a franchise record dating back to the 1988-1989 season
LeBron James becomes the 1st NBA player to win All-Star MVP awards in consecutive seasons and joins The Big O and his Airness to only win the award 3 times in his career. Bob Pettit is next (all time leader with 4)
Cavaliers clinch the Central Division and #1 seed in Playoffs
Cavs win the NBA title in 6 against the LA Lakers at The Q
LeBron James is named NBA Finals MVP
LeBron James is named NBA MVP and becomes the 12th player in NBA history to win both All-star and league MVP. He also becomes the 4th player in NBA history to win all 3 MVP awards in one season (Willis Reed, Jordan x2 and Shaq)
Sprained ankles...they're a basketball player's Achilles' Heel. Not literally...figuratively. As any basketball player will tell you, there is nothing like rolling your ankle and spraining it. 2 weeks before my debut in "The Game of Hope" charity basketball game in Youngstown, guess what I did? (It's a rhetorical question.) Answer below...picture courtesy of Mandizzle Photography.
Pretty bad, huh? But that didn't stop me. Hobbled and bruised, I taped up the ankle and was able to participate in a game whose proceeds went to support terminally ill children in the Youngstown area. I managed to drain a 3, dish out 2 assists, block one shot and get to the foul line for 2 foul shots before my ankle gave out on me. I went from being Mo running the offense on the court to "Z" rooting on Team Grahm from the bench. I had my own little cheering section thanks to M&M and my bro, Jim. Alongside Congressman Tim Ryan, Team Grahm managed to squeek out a 46-44 victory thanks to some clutch free throws by former Browns defensive back and MVP of the game, Felix Wright. I told him that the black jersey looked good on him and he should've worn it when he played in the NFL rather than the brown and orange. He laughed it off but deep down I know he felt the same way.

[General]
Seeing as today is my 29th birthday (big props to Mom and Dad for enabling this day to happen) I thought I would make a list of reasons you could celebrate today:
29. It is above freezing today 28. In 1793, Louis XVI was guillotined for treason by the French government. Ok, not really reason to celebrate but a moment in history never the less. 27. Birthday of Leo Burnett, business man who founded one of the best advertising agencies in the world, Leo Burnett Worldwide. Burnett was responsible for creating such icons as the Jolly Green Giant, the Marlboro Man, Toucan Sam, Charlie the Tuna, Morris the Cat, the Pillsbury Doughboy, the 7up "Spot", and Tony the Tiger. Plus, he hired me for a short time...his biggest claim to fame. 26. The first nuclear submarine was launched in 1954, revolutionizing nautical warfare and giving us storylines for U-571, The Hunt for the Red October, Crimson Tide and, most notably, Down Periscope 27. In 1950, George Orwell, arguably the 20th centuries' best chronicler of English literature passed away. If you haven't read 1984, get a copy and while reading, remember it was written in 1949. 26. William Wrigley III was born in 1933 who gave us such things as Wrigley's gum and one of the last TRUE cathedrals of baseball, Wrigley Field. 25. In 1976, the first Concorde took flight from London to Paris with passengers aboard. The Concorde - when only traveling at the speed of sound will do. 24. In 1798, the first American novel, The Power of Sympathy or the Triumph of Nature Founded in Truth is printed in Boston, MA, paving the way for literary works like The Catcher and the Rye, All the Kings Men, The Great Gatsby, To Kill a Mockingbird and The Cat and the Hat...just to name a few. 23-18. Billy Ocean was born in 1950 and gave us 6 reasons to celebrate today by providing us with his masterpieces: "Caribbean Queen," "Loverboy," "Suddenly," "When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Gets Going," "They'll Be Sad Songs" and last but certainly not least, "Get Out of My Dreams, Get Into My Car." (beep beep oooo yeah) 17. The Pineapple was introduced in Hawaii in 1813 16. The first inaugural parade was broadcast on TV for Harry Truman in 1949 15. In 1954, the first gas turbine automobile debuted in NYC 14. The Bee Gee's album, "Saturday Night Fever" goes to #1 for 24 weeks forever immortalizing John Travolta and giving Justin Timberlake the chance to do one of the best skits in SNL history 13. News of the Lewinsky/Clinton affair is published in 1998. Cigar anyone? 12. Geena Davis was born in 1956 to prove that there is NO CRYING IN BASEBALL 11. Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon was born in 1963 10. The Wizard of Oz made it's big screen debut in New York City which gave us the saying, "There's no place like home," a saying the Cavs believe in with a record of 20-0 this year at The Q. 9. Lorena Bobbitt found temporarily insane of chopping off spouse's penis. Really?!?! Insane??!?! You don't say! 8. 100 participants run in the Nude Olympics race in Indiana in tempatures around 38 degrees Farenheit. 7. In 1980, the year of my birth, Les Henson of Virginia Tech made a 89' 3" basketball field goal. Moondog did his patented "One Arm" dunk the next day and broke the backboard. 6. Neptune becomes the outermost planet in 1979 (Pluto moves closer). They still can't find Uranus...that joke never gets old. 5. In 1940, Jack Nicklaus, arguably the best golfer to ever play the game before Tiger Woods was born in Columbus, Ohio. 4. Orpheus Roye, defensive end for the Pittsburgh Steelers, was born in 1974. How about a belated birthday present and win next Sunday, huh, O? 3. In 1979 during Superbowl XIII, Pittsburgh Steelers beat Dallas Cowboys, 35-31 in Miami and Terry Bradshaw was named MVP. 30 years later, the Steelers are playing in Super Bowl XLIII in another city in Florida. Coincidence? 2. In 2009, the Cavaliers avoid their first losing streak of the season with a win over the Trailblazers. Ok, so I'm prognosticating here but "Choose Faith, Cleveland." 1. All for One. One for All. GO CAVS!
To say that CavFanatic Night at the Cavs game on 1/7 was a success is an understatement. I'm telling you, it was like Christmas in January. Ok, bad example seeing as Christmas was only 2 weeks ago but you get the idea...it was awesome! I don't mean to brag but I must say that several people commented on the game show hosting skills that Mike and I possessed and what a stellar job we did. So I got that going for me...which is nice. So if you're looking for an MC for your upcoming event, don't hesitate to contact me. I'm available for weddings, graduations, birthday parties, corporate events, Bar Mitzvahs and more...
But seriously, it couldn't have been better. Family Feud was a blast! (see The Fanatic's page for details) And while you're there, check out the Fanatic at the game last night. That dude was EVERY WHERE! He was walking around with random signs that were sure to make the other half of Mona Lisa smile. Just for the record, Fanatic, my blog IS bigger than yours. (that's what she said)
With special appearances by Danny Ferry, Fred McLeod, the Cavalier Girls, the Scream Team and a special introduction by Ahmaad and Nicole, Family Feud was an experience all in itself. We got to see an 8 year old single handedly defeat the opposing team with his answers, a 28 year old say that the first thing he washes in the shower is the faucet and everyone got to hear me say, "Show me your underwear" and " Show me your chest." Just for the record these were answers to questions and not a sudden onset of Tourrette Syndrome. But the night was just beginning...
CavFanatic was shown love by everyone during the game from Q-tube to the performance teams and even Joe Tait giving us web-aholics some love. But there was no greater showing of support for CavFanatic than from the players themselves who donned a special CavFanatic edition uniform. Regardless of your thoughts of the uniform, it was pretty cool to have the team embrace this network of people who embrace them. It's a free country and I condemn no one for having an opinion. All I ask is that you look past the uniforms that "look like Skittles" as LeBron put it and see what the meaning behind it was.
But no uniform or social network can overshadow the fact that the Cavaliers took at least 4 of the 9 lives the Bobcats had with a 111-81 victory that catapulted the Cavs to not only sole possession of 1st place in the Eastern Conference...not only did it extend the home win streak to 18-0, the only team in the NBA undefeated at home this season...but it gave the Wine and Cold Knights of Cleveland the best record in the NBA for the first time since 1989. That was a pretty good day.
Thanks to everyone who not only attended the event but continue to keep this thing going. You and every other Cavaliers fan across the world give us the support and the reason to continue to do what we do when we do what we do. There may be over 4,000 CavFanatics or 20,562 fans in The Q or millions of Cavaliers fans across the world or 15 players on the roster...but it has been and forever will be: One for All. All for One.
